LATIN AND THE MASS: THE MORE DEAD THE LANGUAGE THE BETTER
"The Latin language is venerable on account of its origin and its antiquity; it is the language in which the praises of God resounded from the lips of Christians during the first centuries. It is a sublime and solemn thought that the Holy sacrifice is now offered in the same language...with the very same words as it was offered in times long past, in the obscurity of the Catacombs." The Catechism Explained, The Holy Sacrifice of the Mass, Spirago & Clarke (1927)
"There is also an element of mystery about the Latin tongue; it is a dead language not understood by the people. The use of an unknown tongue conveys to the mind ... that a mystery is being enacted. In the first centuries of Christianity a curtain used to be drawn during the time from the Sanctus to the communion to conceal the altar from the sight of the worshippers. This is now no longer done, but the use of an unknown tongue has something of the same effect, by inspiring awe..." The Catechism Explained, The Holy Sacrifice of the Mass, Spirago & Clarke (1927)

ARRANGED MARRIAGES MAKING A COMEBACK
“Today is the era of the arranged couple who fall into love around the birth of the first child," said Marian Salzman, co-author of "Next Now: Trends for the Future."
"It sounds traditional, but in some ways so much of the future is back to the past, turbo-charged,” she said.
Arranged marriages have been part of many cultures for thousands of years, primarily born Read More...
SWEDISH COURT: PRISONS HAVE NO RIGHT TO DENY PORNOGRAPHY TO CONVICTED SEX OFFENDERS
From Irish Examiner: Convicted sex offenders in Sweden are free to read pornography in their cells following a court ruling that has angered the prison service.
The Supreme Administrative Court in Stockholm last week ruled that the Swedish Prison and Probation Service had no right to deny a rape convict access to his adult magazines.
Prison officials had argued that reading porn would interfere with the man’s rehabilitation programme.
They also said the magazines posed a security problem for staff and other inmates because they could increase the risk of the man relapsing into criminal behaviour.
This comes on the heels of a nationwide removal of religious books from prisons in the United States. On the one hand the Swede's must permit sex offenders their pornography magazines, while on the other, prison officials are removing religious books, including Christian books, from prison bookshelves because they Read More...
GERMAN CARDINAL CONDEMNS UNCRITICAL TOLERANCE TOWARD ALL RELIGION--CHRISTIANITY AND ISLAM ARE NOT EQUALS
German Cardinal Karl Lehmann, head of the German conference of bishops, recently expressed concern about all faiths being treated equally regardless of the size of their flock and their history.
"The neutrality of the state regarding individual religions must not be confused with indifference and uncritical tolerance toward the impact of religions on society".
There are those that agreed with Cardinal Lehmann's arguments:
"Ronald Pofalla, the general secretary of Chancellor Angela Merkel's conservative Christian Democratic Union party, said Lehmann was right to say Islam could not be afforded the same legal standing in Germany as Christianity.
"Unlike Christianity, Islam is not in Europe's cultural centre and is not reflected in everyday life in the same way," Pofalla said in a statement.
The irony of this seemingly benevolent uncritical tolerance toward religion is that it is ultimately destructive to Christianity. It relegates Christianity to the same status as the heretical newcomer Read More...
SEDEVACANTIST CONVENT SPLITS OVER A RETURN TO THE THE POPE AND THE CHURCH
I recently met a woman at a party from this group who informed me that there was no Pope. It turned out to be an interesting afternoon. It seems that Pope Benedict XVI is having an impact on Sedevacantism.
From Spokesmanreview.com: Countless tears have been shed this month up at Mount St. Michael's. As they watch their fellow nuns pack their belongings and leave the convent, the remaining sisters of the Congregation of Mary Immaculate Queen are grieving.
"It's been painful for all the sisters – for those who felt the need to leave and those who remain here," said Sister Mary Dominica, the acting superior of the religious order, a group that most people recognize as "The Singing Nuns."
"We've been a family for so many years," she said, her voice Read More...
ELIMINATING MEXICANS--CULTURAL IMPERIALISM AND THE SPREAD OF THE CULTURE OF DEATH
A U.S. Republican congressman has proposed using condoms to halt immigration of Mexicans into the United States.
"[A] slower rate of growth would...reduce the long-term illegal immigration pressure on America's borders," reasoned Rep. Mark Kirk, who also supports stronger border security in the short-term."
Kirk made the statement during a heated debate in the House of Representatives over whether the US government should be allowed to donate condoms and other contraceptives to foreign family planning agencies.
This was proposed as Mexican birth rates are already in steep decline:
"[F]ertility rates have plunged in Mexico since 1980, when an average couple would have five or more children. Now, the country's fertility rate has dropped to 2.5 children, compared to 2.1 for the United States, according to United Nations data."

A CALL FOR PREFERENTIAL CITIZENSHIP FOR "ANDALUSIAN MUSLIMS" EXPELLED FROM SPAIN
From Reuters: A call for descendents of Muslims expelled from Spain in the seventeenth century to be given preferential terms for Spanish citizenship has highlighted the country's uneasy relationship with its Islamic heritage.
The proposal was made at a meeting this week in Cordoba, a city in Andalusia which was the centre of Islamic civilization in the Iberian peninsula during nearly eight centuries of Moorish rule of much of what is now Spain and Portugal.
In 1609, Spain's King Philip III ordered all Muslims to leave his kingdom, leading to the expulsion of about 300,000 people. Their descendents today mainly live in North Africa and still regard themselves as "Andalusians", after the old name for Muslim Spain -- "Al Andalus"
Giving them preferential terms for Spanish citizenship would be an act of symbolic reconciliation, said Mansur Escudero, head of Spain's Islamic Board, the biggest group representing Spanish Muslims.
"The Andalusians who live in North Africa, most of them in Morocco, in Tunisia, in Libya, they're Read More...
SCREENING FOR DEFECTS IN EMBRYOS IS FOUND TO BE HIGHLY UNRELIABLE
"[PGS] is based on the concept that the entire chromosomal constitution of an embryo can be represented by a single cell, which is removed from the embryo. If one biopsied cell is found to be abnormal, there is a 90% chance that the rest of the embryo is also abnormal or mosaic, where two or more cells with different chromosomal constitution exist in a single embryo."
Well it seems that embryos have the ability to self-correct.
"We found that embryos which were abnormal on day 3 demonstrated a high rate of mosaicism However, on day 5 some of them had undergone 'self-correction' into normal embryos. Others kept the same abnormalities, while some had VCV Read More...
CHRISTIANS --THE AVANT-GARDE OF A NEW EUROPE
Here is an interview with Cardinal Bertone on the condition of faith in Europe. The interview is reprinted from the Polish Catholic publication niedziela:
Q: WLODZIMIERZ REDZIOCH: - Some political powers regard the presence of the Church as a threat to the secular character of the state...
A: CARDINAL TARCISIO BERTONE: - One should not mix secular character and laicism. A healthy laicism means the autonomy of the political sphere in relation to the religious sphere but not to morality. Faith is not a private act. Therefore, I am sad to see that some countries, for example France, strongly opposed the idea of including 'Christian roots' of the continent into the project of the European constitution.
Q: Why does Europe need faith?
A: I will begin by quoting the brief statement of Alexis de Tocqueville (the French historian, politician and specialist in American democracy, who lived in the years 1805-1859), 'Despotism can do without faith, but freedom Read More...
CHASTITY & SEX ABUSE CLAIMS
So often we hear that the sex abuse claims in the Catholic Church were brought about by the requirement of celibacy. But what of the sex abuse claims within protestanism where there is no requirement of celibacy? And what of the sex abuse claims in the secular world? One could argue that those who are not celibate are therefore "satiated" and are less likely to engage in sex abuse crimes. But this is not the case. Below are sex abuse statistics for three of the nations largest insurers of protestant churches:
Church Mutual Insurance Co. insures a total of 95,000 churches and worship centers and 1,000 religious groups. Church Mutual has received an average of about 100 reports a year alleging child sex abuse, and an average of about 100 reports a year alleging other sexual misconduct over the past decade.
GuideOne Insurance Co. insures a total of 43,495 churches-worship centers, and 1,505 religious groups. GuideOne has received an average of about 160 reports of child sex abuse a year, and 40 reports of sexual misconduct each year for the past two decades. The total amount in claims paid over the last five years has averaged approximately $4 million per year excluding attorney fees.
Brotherhood Mutual Insurance Co. insures 27,000 churches-worship centers and 3,000 religious groups. Brotherhood has received an average of 73 reports of BOTH child sex abuse and other sexual misconduct each year for the past 15 years. A total of approximately $7.8 million has been paid out in claims for sexual misconduct and child sex abuse over the past 15 years.
Today moderation of the sexual appetite is seen as unhealthy, while its uninhibited expression is seen as virtuous. The steep decline in sexual morality is the great indicator of our times. Knowing our nature Satan has placed irresistable temptations all around us in the modern world that render our sexual appetites Read More...
ABOMINATIONS IN JERUSALEM - WEEP FOR YOURSELVES AND YOUR CHILDREN
On Wednesday Jerusalem authorities issued a permit for a gay pride parade sponsored by the homosexual-lesbian Open House organization. The parade is to take place in the heart of Jerusalem on Thursday, and is expected to go forward with 7,000 police officers assigned to keep order. Both the organizers and the police fear violence during the march, after an Orthodox man stabbed and wounded three marchers during the 2005 parade.
A poll conducted last week by Geocartography Knowledge Group found that 64 percent of Jewish Israelis oppose holding the Gay Pride Parade in Jerusalem. The 64% either voiced complete opposition to the parade or agreed with the following statement:
"Even if authorities permit the homo-lesbian pride parade in Tel Aviv or in other cities, it should be banned in Jerusalem due to the sanctity of the city in the eyes of many in Israel and in the world, and because of the sensitivity of more than half of Jerusalem's population who are religious."
Jerusalem Open House Director Noa Satat said the survey reflected a marked rise in support for the parade, which would go ahead on Thursday as planned.
"The Gay Pride Parade in Jerusalem is not a provocation and not a party," Satat said. Holding it in Jerusalem, with its heavily religious population, "expresses a [special] message of both pride and tolerance.
Rabbi Adin Steinsaltz, the honorary president of a revived version of the Sanhedrin, issued a press release calling on Jews to protest the parade. He stated: "The previous parade brought upon us the Second Lebanon War, with Read More...

THE MOST BEAUTIFUL THING THIS SIDE OF HEAVEN
"The church's windows are broken, its beige bricks are sooty, its paint is chipped. The 300-foot steeple, a hallmark of the St. Louis skyline, is pulling away from its foundation. One day it could tumble into traffic on Gravois Avenue.
St. Francis de Sales church, often called the Cathedral of South St. Louis, is an ideal home for a group of Roman Catholic priests devoted to restoration. But restoring this 19th-century neo-Gothic church to its former glory is only one reason St. Louis Archbishop Raymond Burke assigned the priests to oversee St. Francis de Sales.
The real mission of the group, called the Institute of Christ the King Sovereign Priest, is the restoration of the traditional Latin Mass.
The 1,600-year-old Mass isn't used much today, but it's making a comeback.
