Pope Francis Alters Tradition via Phone Call-St Jerome Responds

With the alarming news that Pope Francis is now attempting to alter Christ's teachings and inviting sacrilegious communion via telephone calls I propose the following response of St Jerome …

A letter of St Jerome to Amandus of Bordeaux (394), a presbyter seeking advice on pastoral matters.

"I find joined to your letter of inquiries a short paper containing the following words: “ask him, (that is me, St Jerome) whether a woman who has left her husband on the ground that he is an adulterer and sodomite and has found herself compelled to take another may in the lifetime of him whom she first left be in communion with the church without doing penance for her fault.”...Tell the sister...,who thus enquires of me concerning her condition, not my sentence but that of the Apostle.

“Know ye not, brethren (for I speak to them that know the law,) how that the law hath dominion over a man as long as he liveth? For the woman which hath an husband is bound by the law to her husband, so long as he liveth; but if the husband be dead, she is loosed from the law of her husband. So then, if, while her husband liveth, she be married to another man, she shall be called an adulteress.” And in another place: “the wife is bound by the law as long as her husband liveth; but if her husband be dead, she is at liberty to be married to whom she will; only in the Lord.” ( 1 Cor 7:39)

"Thus the apostle has thus cut away every plea and has clearly declared that, if a woman marries again while her husband is living, she is an adulteress. You need not tell me tales about an assailants physical violence, a mother's wheedling, a father's heavy hand, or about the swarm of relatives, the trickery and insolence of servants, the losses to household property. As long as her husband lives, even though he may be an adulterer, a homosexual, a man stained with every crime and divorced by his wife because of his misdeeds, he still ranks as her husband and she may not marry another. It is not the Apostle who decides this on his own authority; it is Christ speaking through him. Paul is simply echoing the words of Christ, who tells us in the Gospel:
Whoever puts away his wife, save on account of immorality, causes her to commit adultery; and he who marries a woman who has
been put away, commits adultery (MT 5:32)

"Notice what he says:
"He who marries a woman who has been put away, commits adultery." Whether she has parted from her husband or whether he has parted from her, whoever marries her is an adulterer. That explains why the Apostles, as soon as they realize the heavy burden of matrimony, exclaim: "If the case of a man with his wife is so, it is not expedient to marry." Our Lord answers them: "Let him accept it who can", ((MT 19: 10,12) and holding up the example of the three eunuchs, He immediately shows the blessedness of virginity, which is not fettered by any bond of the flesh…

"If this sister of yours, then….wishes to receive the Body of Christ and not to be branded an adulteress, she must do penance. At least from the moment she embarks upon a different course of life, all further marital relations with her second husband must cease. It would be more correct to call him adulterer than husband. If she finds this difficult and is unable to desert a man to whom she has given her love, if sensual pleasures takes preference over our Lord, let her note the Apostle's declaration:
"You cannot drink the cup of the Lord and the cup of the devils. You cannot be partakers of the table of the Lord, and the of the table of devils" (1 Cor 10:21) And He says again: "What fellowship has light with darkness? What harmony is there between Christ and Belial? (2 Cor 6:14, 15)

"Therefore I beg you to comfort her and urge her to seek salvation. Flesh that is diseased must be cut away and cauterized. It is not the treatment but the wound that is to blame if the surgeon shows a merciful severity which spares by not sparing and is cruel only to be kind." St Jerome

"Whether because of voluntary birth control, or because of impoverishment of the stock, many Roman marriages at the end of the first and the beginning of the second century were childless...The feminism that triumphed in Imperial times brought more in its time than advantage and superiority. By copying men too closely the Roman women succeeded more rapidly in emulating man's vices than in acquiring his strength." Jerome Carcopino, Daily Life in Ancient Rome.

And from Fr John Hardon S.J.:
"Sexual suicide is sexual liberation that has created a society hostile to the family and the institution of marriage. It is a society that fails to recognize the natural order of the male and female gender. Sexual suicide is the ultimate destination of “feminism”: female inferiority and familiarity and familial disintegration. Sexual suicide is the pollution of a culture by false ideas and misused technology. The result is an erosion of love and family that reduces sex to a form of sexual massage...Sexual suicide is the wide spread virus of radical feminism that has penetrated the culture of so many Western nations."

Women have become sex objects for the pleasure of noncommittal men who no longer feel the responsibility of rearing or financially supporting their offspring. Women who become pregnant and carry their babies to term are left to support the "family" while their children are deprived of a mother and a father. Rather than gaining equality with men and liberation
from men, women have become inferior slaves to men's basest nature---sloth and lust. Suicidal sex will destroy us.

The increase in Muslim immigrants to Italy has brought a boom in polygamous illegal marriages. As the West refuses to acknowledge, nothing rivals Christianity in terms of granting women freedom and respect. God forever elevated and dignified the role of a woman when he gave a humble and sinless virgin the honor of carrying His own son into the world to redeem mankind. Feminism, on the other hand, has enslaved women as skinny, sterile, sexed-up, breadwinners while denigrating motherhood, fatherhood, and family. Islam is just as much an enemy to women as is feminism.

Forgotten Grave Stones
"The family may be regarded as the cradle of civil society, and it is in great measure within the circle of family life that the destiny of states is fostered." Pope Leo XIII Sapientiae Christianae (Jan 10, 1890).

One need not be a prophet to see where the destruction of the traditional family will lead--especially when nations hasten its demise with the false charity of political correctness.

Telegraph: "Thousands of primary pupils were prevented from making Father's Day cards at school for fear of embarrassing classmates who live with single mothers and lesbians.

The politically correct policy was quietly adopted at schools "in the interests of sensitivity" over the growing number of lone-parent and same-sex households.

It only emerged after a large number of

“Above all the grace and the gifts that Christ gives to his beloved is that of overcoming self.” St Francis of Assisi

Italy--the land with one of the most graying populations in the world--is attempting to kick its 30-somethings out of their parent's homes in order to boost the birth rate. With nearly two-thirds of 30-34 year olds still living at home it seems the country could use a modern day St Francis to rescue it from apostasy and contraceptive driven suicidal sex.

"We want the bamboccioni to move out," Finance Minister Tommaso Padoa Schioppa recently said, using a term that evokes grown babies still attached to mamma's apron strings."

"Now Italy's center-left government is proposing a ¤999 ($1,431) yearly tax credit on rents for people ages 20 to 30, hoping that will encourage young adults to start living on their own and start a family. But experts say the measure, though encouraging, is not enough to undo cultural and economic factors keeping young men and women at home."

"The problem," says Alessandro Rosina, who teaches demography at Catholic University in Milan, "is not just that Italy's birthrate of 1.3 is one of the lowest in Europe, but that is has been stable at that level for too long."

"Young Italians have found a new formula for la dolce vita," writes journalist Beppe Severgnini on his popular blog, "Italians.""

Why would the average Italian 30 year-old leave the nest for a life of sacrifice and committment to one person? It certainly will not happen due to tax credits. Going from momma's apron strings to the government's does not transform boys into men and girls into women. Rather it is only through a return to the Faith and ultimately God's grace that will make man who has been accustomed to living for self, and self alone, awaken to the dire demographic predicament that a once Catholic nation now finds itself in. Nothing on earth --including secularism and socialism -- can match the tranformative powers that Christianity has on men and even nations. Thus only a return to the Faith will prompt the young Italians to take on the role of men and women and fathers and mothers.
